Modesto Home Heavily Damaged By Fire

MODESTO (CBS13) - A Modesto family's home was severely damaged by a fire in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Just before 1 a.m., residents of a home in the 2800 block of Sand Stone Street smelled smoke, and when they went outside to investigate, saw their home's roof was on fire and smoke and flames were coming from roof vents, according to a statement from the Modesto Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they found the fire had spread into parts of the home's interior.

Additional firefighters were called to the home to help prevent flames from spreading to nearby structures. It took crews just under 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Neighbors reported numerous aerial fireworks in the area; however, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $250,000. Red Cross was called to assist the family with living accommodations and vouchers for food and clothing.
