Former Placer County Deputy Gets 150-Day Sentence, Probation For Sex With Underage Volunteer

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — A judge has sentenced a former Placer County Sheriff's deputy who pleaded guilty to having sex with an underage volunteer.

Kenneth Skogen was sentenced to 150 days in jail after his November guilty plea to having sex in 2011 with a 17-year-old who was a volunteer for the sheriff's department.

Skogen was also sentenced to three years probation and counseling.

The alleged relationship happened back in 2011. Detectives say they were tipped off by another deputy that the Placer County Sheriff's deputy was in a relationship with the teen. The teen, whose gender was not stated, was said to be a volunteer with the department.

Skogen has been commended in the past, receiving the public safety officer medal of valor for pulling an elderly woman from her home during the 49er Fire in 2009.

He's also the same deputy who made news in 2010 when his 3-year-old daughter accidentally shot herself with one of her father's guns in their Roseville garage. The district attorney's office investigated to determine whether Skogen acted in a grossly negligent manner in the storage of his firearms. No charges were filed.
