Sacramento Woman, 70, Suspected Of Stabbing Neighbor, 75

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A fight between two elderly women ended with one in the hospital and another behind bars on a charge of attempted murder.

Police say the two had an ongoing dispute. Neighbors say the fight was over a cat.

"These two ladies got in an argument and one stabbed the other. I said, 'What!'" said Sandra Sims, a hairstylist who lives at the apartment complex.

The woman who styles hair for clients at this senior apartment complex isn't the only one taken aback.

Most of the seniors living at St. Francis Manor in downtown Sacramento say they're having a hard time believing it.

"It is sad to go and have elderly people do something like this," said resident Manny.

On Friday, friends say they watched a 75-year old-woman wheeled out on a gurney, bleeding – stabbed in the neck, they say.

"I understand she stabbed her pretty bad," said resident Carrie Cooper.

Friends also point out she's a spiritual healer who minds her own business.

"Play bingo, have bean bag tosses and those activities," Manny said.

But police say the victim and her elderly neighbor, Barbara Holland, got into a fight.

It happened in the hallway, outside their apartments. And things turned violent, quickly.

"The one that did the stabbing, I've heard her be upset and everything, but not speak above a whisper," Cooper said.

Holland is now in jail facing an attempted murder charge. She isn't eligible for bail.

Court records show she has no criminal history in Sacramento County.

We reached out to apartment managers but have yet to hear back.

"They'll get to the bottom of it," Sims said.

Police say they're reviewing surveillance video, but won't be releasing it at this time. The 75-year-old victim is still in the hospital in serious condition as of Saturday night.
