Sacramento Firefighters Rescued After Falling Through Floor Fighting Fire

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Rescuers raced to save firefighters trapped in a burning basement as the flames closed in on Monday.

The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. at a three-story home on 22nd Avenue, off of Stockton Boulevard.

A Sacramento firefighter's panic can be heard in the recordings of him calling out to his own for help as an early-morning fire turned more dangerous than first thought.

Three firefighters entered the house with flames roaring. Soon after, the floor collapsed under them and two fell into the basement.

"We had two firefighters trapped in the basement. Those firefighters have been transported to a local hospital," said Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Roberto Padilla.

One of the firefighters was able to get out of the home, but the remaining two were pulled from the home by other crew members. A neighbor says when they came out, it was clear something was wrong.

"They brought one out, he was being rolled on the grass. I believe he was on fire because they took off this clothes," said Vanessa Sanchez.

Two of the firefighters received burns and another was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
