Sacramento Offering Mobile App For Parking Payments

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A mobile app will help people pay for parking in Sacramento.

The city of Sacramento has installed smart parking meters in parts of Old Sacramento and around city hall, which can work with the Park Mobile app.

Users can pay with the app, which also sends a notice before the meter expires.

Meters will still accept money and credit cards, but the city says they wanted to make paying for parking easier in the city.

"It's an additional convenience to make a better parking experience for you," said parking spokesman Matt Winkler. "We're just adding another way for someone to actually pay for a meter while they're in the street, nd maybe it might be convenient for more people out there who can actually use their smartphone application."

The service isn't free; there is a 35-cent charge to use the service.

The city will continue installing the meters throughout Downtown Sacramento and Midtown Sacramento through the summer.
