A's Reach 1-Year Deals With 5 Players, Avoid Arbitration
Right fielder Josh Reddick and new third baseman Brett Lawrie were among the players to reach one-year contracts with the Oakland Athletics on Friday and avoid arbitration.
Reddick is set to earn $4.1 million in 2015, up from $2.7 million last year, while Lawrie gets a boost from $516,000 to $1,925,000.
Lawrie joined the A's in late November in the trade with Toronto that sent All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson to the Blue Jays. Lawrie didn't play after Aug. 5 following a left oblique strain he sustained in his return after being sidelined for more than a month with a broken right index finger - and he has six career stints on the disabled list already.
Right-hander Ryan Cook ($1.4 million), and outfielders Sam Fuld ($1.75 million) and Craig Gentry ($1.6 million) also agreed to one-year contracts. The new-look A's have made nine trades this offseason involving 27 players.
In addition, infielder Andy Parrino cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Nashville. He will be a non-roster invitee to spring training next month.
The A's have four players remaining in arbitration: pitchers Fernando Abad, Jarrod Parker and newly acquired Tyler Clippard, and infielder Eric Sogard.
