Sacramento Apartment Complex Hit By Series Of Tire Slashings

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A slashed tire is just one more thing a hard working mother has to worry about.

"I don't have money like that to get a tire," said resident Sharnice Brown.

Brown woke up to find her van's headlights punched out and tire punctured – and she considers herself one of the lucky ones.

"They had two there so I call myself lucky," Brown said.

In all, six cars had their tires slashed. All were parked in one section of the Granite Springs apartment complex.

But neighbors worry they could be next.

"This area is getting worse and worse as new management is letting people in," said concerned resident Chris Glassel.

"I came in last night [and] the gate was just wide open," said Marcus Vidales, another concerned resident.

Investigators say there were no witnesses, no evidence and no surveillance. It's impossible to tell if the victims were targeted.

But in Auburn, a fed-up man took matters into his own hands. He and dozens of his neighbors' tires were slashed repeatedly at a senior living community.

He installed surveillance cameras and cameras eventually rolled on the suspect.

Police recently arrested a man who lived at their complex.

Back at Granite Springs, Brown says she can't afford her own surveillance, let alone a new tire.

"Just security. I guess we all have to look out," Brown said.

Investigators are asking any other victims to come forward.

Tire slashing is treated as felony vandalism.
