Driver Accused Of DUI In Deadly Wrong-Way Crash That Killed 3 Appears In Court

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The driver accused of killing three teens in a wrong-way freeway crash just over two weeks ago appeared in front of a judge on Monday.

At the hearing, Aaron Jordon Caudillo, 24, of Roseville was wheeled into the courtroom in a wheelchair and wore a neck brace. It was his first hearing for Caudillo since the crash that killed Matthew Azar, 19, of Roseville, Kendra Langham, 18, of Granite Bay and Mathew Beardwitt, 18, of Roseville.

The judge increased Caudillo's bail from $850,000 to $1 million.

On January 10 at 2:10 a.m., Caudillo was allegedly drunk and driving the wrong way in the number one lane of eastbound Interstate 80 at Madison Avenue when he hit a sedan carrying Azar, Langham and Beardwitt.

Caudillo was the only survivor of the crash, but suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Mercy San Juan Hospital and released into police custody last week.

He was booked into jail on charges of felony DUI, exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit and three counts of vehicular manslaughter while driving intoxicated in connection with the crash.

The next hearing for Caudillo is on March 5 at 8:30 a.m.
