Sacramento Family's Cat Impaled By 30-Inch Arrow

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A family cat was shot and killed with a roughly 30-inch arrow, and they're hoping whoever was responsible is punished.

"This is the last thing anyone would expect to happen in a typical suburban neighborhood," Bonnie Davis said. "We've lived here 24 years—never have I ever heard of anything like this happening."

The family's beloved cat, Ellie, was killed in a particularly cruel way. Someone played the part of hunter, using a bow and arrow to pierce the cat's tiny body.

A bloody trail showed the cat's movements after it was hit, ultimately seeking safety underneath a family car.

"I was very confused, there was blood, and paw prints in it and there was this arrow so I called my brother over," said Carl Charity.

A two-and-a-half-foot-long fiberglass arrow that shot straight through the cat, exiting its body completely.

The family believes Ellie was hit while she was walking along their fence. Someone who is a good shot on the other side of their fence treated her like she was a target.

Chris Cooper lives on the other side of the family's fence and says the police have already questioned him.

"The cops were here; I showed 'em everything I got. they verified it's not me," he said.

Felony animal abuse is punishable with a year in prison and a $20,000 fine.
