Roseville Police Officer Sworn-In After Brain Cancer Left Him '2 Millimeters' From Death

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — One of 15 new Roseville Police officers who were sworn in on Monday faced seemingly impossible odds after his brain cancer diagnosis a few years ago.

Among the newest officers is a man who doctors once thought wouldn't make it this far.

"I'm actually a brain cancer survivor," said Bobby Seich.

A survivor, many would say, thanks to his wife. Amber Seich insisted doctors take a closer look at her husband after they thought he was just suffering from bad headaches.

"I knew something was wrong and the doctor was wrong," she said.

"If it wasn't for my wife who asked for a CAT scan, we probably would've never found out," he said.

What doctors found was a tumor in his brain, and in fact they'd found it just in time.

"They said 'Your brain is rapidly swelling if we don't get you in to get the swelling down you're going to die over the weekend,'" she said.

"It was 2 millimeters away from the actual point of death," he said.

Seich was a K-9 officer in Florida at the time, but through the surgery, a year of chemotherapy and radiation, Bobby got back into his uniform, battling bad guys while battling cancer.

"I'm in remission right now," he said.

His outlook on life is one of the reasons why Chief Daniel Hahn says they're lucky to have Seich on their force.

"First and foremost what we look for is a good heart and a heart that's into this community," he said. "On top of that he's an extremely hard worker and you can see that from the challenges he overcame."
