Rocklin Seeing Building Boom As Developers Say It Offers Best Of Both Worlds

ROCKLIN (CBS13) — With a population of only 60,000, the city of Rocklin could be considered small, but its growth is anything but that.

Rocklin has seen tens of millions of dollars in development over a very short amount of time.

City developers say Rocklin offers the best of both worlds.

"Rocklin has just a great feel from everyone that lives here," said Dan Acuff.

That's just part of the reason why he decided to open his brand-new microbrewery Dragos Brewing in Rocklin.

"The community is very supportive; I don't think I've come across one person who doesn't want to see us succeed," he said.

He's not the only one putting money and faith into the Placer County city. There is something of a building and business boom going on.

"We're kind of scrambling to kind of staff up to accommodate that," said Karen Garner with the city's development department.

The city's been trying to keep up with all the permit requests and couldn't be happier.

The numbers are staggering.

Back in 2013, the city granted just six permits for commercial buildings. In 2014, it saw a staggering 86 permits granted, bringing in around $40 million in projects. City leaders say they have worked hard to lure businesses, even lowering the permit fees and stressing Rocklin's low crime rate and top-rated schools.

And it isn't just new construction. Rocklin has been able to recently bring in 500 jobs to the area—both PG&E and Liberty Mutual Insurance consolidated their offices and brought them here in Rocklin in the past few months.
