Elderly Roseville School Volunteer Arrested In Child Molestation Case

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — A Roseville school volunteer is under arrest as police try to figure out if there are any other victims.

Investigators say the incident happened just after school on Tuesday and was seen by a watchful parent at Roseville's Robert C. Cooley Middle School.

School officials say the incident happened just off campus as school was getting out.

The suspect has been identified as 70-year-old John Silva, a grandfather of another student and a verified school volunteer. His mugshot has not been release, citing the ongoing investigation.

"Really really want to commend the adult that saw the inappropriate situation and immediately reported it. We should all be doing that. Looking out for each other and looking out for our kids," said Roseville Police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther.

She says the incident of inappropriate touching happened on a side street with a girl under 14 years of age. Now they are wondering if there are other possible victims.

"It's always something that we worry about in cases like this. So we're asking anybody who's come into contact with the suspect, or if they have any concerns at all, to give us a call," she said.

Roseville City School District Superintendent Derek Garcia says the school is assisting police and students as best it can. Staff notified parents on Tuesday night.

"It's not only their physical safety, but it's their emotional safety as well," he said. "This does violate the trust you know with our parent community."

Silva was a supervised volunteer who was under staff supervision at all times, at least inside the building.
