Man Arrested In Connection With Dog Found Burned To Death In Pet Carrier

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Authorities have caught they man, they say, tortured and burned a dog to death that was caged in a carrier on a north Sacramento sidewalk in January.

Following tips from the public, the Sacramento Sheriff's Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Metro Arson Investigation Unit arrested Willie Bee Turner, 20, of Oakland on the charge of felony animal cruelty. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail, with his bail set at $35,000, according to a statement by the Sacramento Sheriff's Department.

The dog's charred remains were found on January 22 just after midnight by Sac Metro firefighters who were responding to a report of burning trash in the 3000 block of Becerra Way in Sacramento County.

Sacramento County Animal Control determined the dog was approximately eight-to-nine-month-old tan-colored, mixed-breed female.

"The dog was alive when it was set on fire," said Metro Fire Captain Shani Cornell, who made the disturbing discovery.

Five partnering agencies and 30 individual donors offered a total of $17,000 to find the culprit.
