Future Of Sleep Train Arena Will Be Discussed At City Council Meeting

NATOMAS (CBS13) — While the focus for the Sacramento Kings is no doubt on filling the hole at the site of a new arena in Downtown Sacramento, attention is shifting on what to do with the old one.

As part of the city's agreement with the Kings, the old arena cannot be used for another sports or entertainment venue. Project manager Desmond Parrington says either way, Sleep Train Arena will either have to be rezoned or torn down.

"We're gonna be working with them or make sure that process is down very quickly," she said.

The possibilities include a high-tech campus space for startups, a university, or possibly a hospital.

Kings President Chris Granger says there is a plan in place, but he wouldn't give out specifics.
