Authorities: Body Of Infant Found In Yolo County During Search

KNIGHTS LANDING (CBS13) -- Authorities say the body of an infant has been found in the area of Yolo County they were searching Wednesday morning.

The body was found just before 10 a.m. in a thicket of brush right off of Ridge Cut Slough, Yolo County Sheriff's Office Capt. Larry Cecchettini said.

Investigators say it is too early to tell if there was foul play involved in the infant's death.

Crews have been down by the waterways near Ridge Cut Slough through the night searching for two-week-old Justice Rees. He and his mother went missing on Feb. 21. The mother, 23-year-old Samantha Green, was found by a Knights Landing resident just outside of town Tuesday evening but the baby was not with her.

Green was reportedly crying and hysterical when she was found. Deputies who soon responded to the scene say the Green cooperated with them and tried to tell them where her baby was located, but couldn't exactly due to being unfamiliar with the area.

Capt. Cecchettini noted that many of the crews had been out all night looking for the infant.

"When you have something like this, especially when it involves a child, you just don't give up," Cecchettini said.

Authorities are not saying at this time if the incident is an abduction, refuting earlier media reports. The infant's father has been contacted by authorities and he's currently at the scene of the search.

Green, who is from Woodland, was found with cuts to her face and body, authorities say. She has not been detained or arrested and reportedly told authorities that the baby was in the Ridge Cut Slough area.

The family has been circulating posts through Facebook asking for help in finding the mother and baby.

Teams from Marin, Contra Costa and Sacramento Counties helped in the search.
