Three Ridiculous Sports Injuries That Happened Off The Field

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders tore cartilage in his left knee when he stepped on a sprinkler head while shagging fly balls at spring training. Although a freak injury, it isn't the strangest thing that has kept an athlete off the field. Here are a couple of examples of guys that missed time because of something that happened away from work from Mandatory.com.

1. Glenallen Hill Has Nightmares

Hill was a journeyman corner outfielder that managed thirteen years in the majors, but is perhaps best know for the time he landed on the fifteen day DL after falling through a glass coffee table while trying to escape spiders that were chasing him - in a nightmare. Hill sliced up his elbows and toes and the experience left him with carpet burns on his knees.

2. Wade Boggs Is Serious About His Cowboy Boots

Boggs is a hall-of-fame infielder and drinker that compiled over 3,000 hits in his career. He did a lot of good things between the lines. One thing that was not so good: Boggs once had to sit out a few games after straining his back while bending over to put on his cowboy boots.

3. Dave Beasant Will Never Eat Mayo Again

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Dave Beasant missed time in 1993 because he sliced a tendon in his big toe after dropping a glass jar of mayonnaise on his foot, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
