NOVATO, Calif. (AP) - Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide of a husband and wife at a retirement home in northern California.

Novato police Sgt. Michael Howard tell the Marin Independent Journal an 88-year-old man apparently shot his wife to death Feb. 20 at her Novato care home before killing himself.

Authorities have identified the couple as Walter and Betty Benson. She was 87.

Howard says police found the Bensons dead of gunshot wounds in the same bed, and the weapon was in the room.

Police released no other details and said the investigation is continuing.
