More Mutilated Animal Carcasses Found In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Investigators have found another set of animal remains in Sacramento Wednesday morning.

Gina Knepp with the Front Street Animal Shelter says that a Sacramento Bee reporter found a bag of headless chickens at 19th and W Streets Wednesday morning. Animal control has taken possession of the carcasses.

The latest find means that there have been at least 10 different cases of mutilated animals found in Sacramento over the past since early January.

Tuesday evening, a different bag of carcasses were found at 20th and U Streets on the rail road tracks – just a block away from where decapitated chickens were found the previous night.

Animal control couldn't tell what kind of animal it was, just that the carcasses were very old.

A clinical psychologist CBS13 spoke to noted that the discoveries are particularly concerning.

"The behavior that is being displayed now is concerning because it's often times behavior you see displayed in serial killers, serial rapists," said Dr. Andrew Mendonsa. "It's about power and control, it's about having ultimate control over a victim."

Investigators are still trying to figure out if the incidents are connected. They're also trying to figure out if the killings may be religious in nature; either way, it would still be criminal.
