UC Davis Comes Back From 10 Points Down To Claim Big West Conference Title

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - Corey Hawkins knocked down the go-ahead basket with 38 seconds left and UC Davis held on for a come-from-behind 61-59 victory over UC Riverside on Thursday night.

Josh Fox converted a three-point play and Hawkins made two at the line to close the Aggies within 54-52. UC Riverside then missed a shot attempt from distance, and Darius Graham dropped a 3-pointer on the other end to give the Aggies their first lead of the contest with 1:18 remaining.

"Oh yeah that why I'm just going crazy," said student Robert Corres. "Half the time I don't know whether to cheer of just watch in silence because my heart won't stop beating...and also stopping at the same time."

Taylor Johns made a layup with 55 seconds to put the Highlanders back in front, and Hawkins answered with a jumper. The Aggies shot 4 of 6 from the line to seal it.

Hawkins finished with 21 points. UC Davis (23-5, 13-2) continues to hold first place in Big West standings, and will play its regular season finale against UC Irvine on Saturday.

UC Davis will host the Big West Conference tournament starting next week.

Johns led UC Riverside (14-15, 7-8) with 15 points.
