New App Could Save You Money When You Eat Out

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – There's a new app out there that might change the way restaurant business is done. It's called Requested.

Sonny Mayugba came up with the idea late one afternoon at his restaurant Red Rabbit.

"It was a Tuesday afternoon, 2 p.m.," Mayugba said. "We had the staff going and it was slow and I thought, 'I wish there was a way to drive customers to the restaurant during non-peak hours."

You could see why restaurants would want people in at non-peak times, but what is in it for the diners?

Discounts, deep discounts.

"Consumers get to name their own price. They get to decide 15, 20, 40% and the app will tell them the likelihood of it getting accepted," Mayugba said.

So far, Requested is available in three California cities – Sacramento, San Francisco and Roseville – and 90 restaurants are participating.

"I can select the restaurant, I can name my price like Priceline or Open Table," one person who used the app said.

The app is available on both Android and iPhone.
