SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY - (CBS13) - Two people were shot, one fatally, early Tuesday morning in San Joaquin County. Now authorities are searching for the shooter.

At around 2:20 a.m., a female called 911, and for some reason was not able to give her location, according to Les Garcia, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities determined the call was made in the area of Collier Road and Highway 99, north of the frontage road. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of a man who died of apparent gunshot wounds. About a quarter-mile north of the scene, they found a woman who was suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. She was transported to the hospital.

Based on their preliminary investigation, deputies believe the victims were traveling in a vehicle with the suspect. At some point, they got out of the vehicle and were shot by the suspect.

Deputies have not released a description of the suspect, but described the suspect's vehicle as a dark-colored 4-door compact vehicle
