After 118 Years, Auburn Pharmacy Closes Its Doors

AUBURN (CBS13) — After 118 years, an iconic Auburn business is closing its doors as the current owners say its time to move on and look into new opportunities.

The pharmacy has stood the test of time, and on its very last day, the town turned out for one last memory.

The tradition came to a close as old fashioned milkshakes were mixed and sodas were copped for the last time.

The Auburn Drug Company first opened in 1896 and stayed a thriving small business, even if it feels like stepping into a time capsule.

Don Nunley says even though he moved away, he still came back for a service that made him feel like family.

"That's more than you'll get in any of the new pharmacies, the new stores you go in," he said.

Those once kids now return as adults, along with their own children for a taste of nostalgia at the marble soda fountain. Drinking their famous green Irish soda from a secret family recipe.

As the doors close for good, some customers worry for the loss of another small business is a sad sign of the times.

The building will remain intact, and no other plans have been made. Prescriptions from the pharmacy will be transferred to a nearby CVS.
