Pregnant Woman Critical After Being Shot Multiple Times In L.A.; Fetus Uninjured
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a pregnant woman shot multiple times at a Los Angeles park is in critical condition, and police are searching for the gunman.
Sgt. Herb Chang says the woman was on a basketball court at Toberman Park late Sunday when the man opened fire, striking her several times in the torso.
The victim is about 25 years old and six or seven months pregnant. She's in critical condition early Monday after surgery.
Chang tells City News Service none of the bullets hit her unborn child. KABC-TV reports the unborn baby is expected to survive.
The gunman ran off after the shooting. Police are looking for witnesses.
Investigators have not named a suspect or a motive.
