Homeowner Tackles Suspect Who Crashed Through Fence

ORANGEVALE (CBS13) – A short police chase through Orangevale ended in dramatic fashion early Wednesday morning.

The chase started in Sacramento County just after 3:30 a.m. Authorities say a tree trimmer called 911 after seeing a Chevy Silverado doing doughnuts in the area of Palm and San Juan Avenues.

Officers later spotted the car and started a pursuit, where speeds reached 80-90mph.

The suspect driver eventually crashed into fence a fence on Walnut and Oak avenues.

A homeowner heard the accident and says he tackled the suspect after seeing him running through his back porch.

"I had him in a headlock on the ground and my mom and dad were around me, making sure he couldn't get up," said Tony Allan Butts.

Officers then sent a K9 in and took the suspect into custody.

"The dog was on top of him by the time I let him go," Butts said.

The suspect, who has not been identified, has first been taken to a hospital to be checked out before he is booked.
