Natomas Residents May Get Share Of $1.7 Million Tree Refund
NATOMAS (CBS13) — Some people living in a Natomas neighborhood may be getting an unexpected check in the mail, as the city of Sacramento has money it no longer needs.
Dan Farrales is one of 14,000 Sacramento residents that may soon be getting some surprise money in the mail.
"I was surprised because this is the first time I've heard about it," he said.

If approved by the Sacramento city Council at Tuesday's meeting, many north Natomas homeowners will be getting cash back—$200 for corner lots, $100 for the others.
The money is coming from when developers in north Natomas were required to pay for planting trees as new homes were being built. The city still has $1.7 million left.
"And we had no more real good space to plant more trees because the homebuilders did such a nice job so now all of those homeowners are eligible for those refunds," said public works director Jerry Way.
Homeowners are free to spend the money on what they want, but because of the drought, they're being encouraged to spend some money on making their homes more water efficient.
