Police: Man Tried To Kidnap 2 Children Outside Sacramento Church

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A man with warrants out for his arrest from another country was arrested after he allegedly tried to kidnap two children outside a Sacramento church.

The incident happened Saturday just before 2 p.m. Sacramento Police say a group of children were eating outside a church along the 2600 block of Del Paso Boulevard when a 34-year-old man walked up.

Police say the man then grabbed two kids and tried to walk away with them, but family and other people in the area were able to physically stop him.

Officers who soon responded to the scene say the man – identified as Paul Nelson – struggled with them before he was taken into custody.

Nelson was booked at Sacramento County Jail and is facing kidnapping and resisting arrest charges. Police have not elaborated on what foreign warrants he was wanted on.

No children were hurt in the incident, police say.
