Interstate 5 Work Will Open Partially In April For Delta Shores Project Work

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A large overpass that will connect Freeport Boulevard to Franklin Boulevard and more will be finished soon, but it's just the beginning of a bigger development project.

The work that's been years in the making stretches over a busy Interstate 5. Many drivers are excited that Cosumnes Boulevard will soon connect from Freeport to Franklin, I-5 to Highway 99.

"It gets really busy around here, it will just make everything so much easier and quicker to get to places where we need to go," said driver John Her.

The $100 million project will open partially in April, with the rest open in September.

"If you are for example on I-5, and you want to go to Freeport, you will be able to use the ramps, the ramp is going to be open both direction. And to go from Freeport to I-5," said City of Sacramento Traffic Planner Nader Kama.

The small part opening is mainly so crews working on the Delta Shores project can get access to the area. The 1.3 million square-foot master-planned community will include 5,000 homes and retail.

The developer says retail construction could start next year, with homes following after.

Konstance Martin, who lives nearby, welcomes the plan, saying it will bring things closer to her that will make her life easier.

"There's not grocery stores and things around here, so I'm looking forward to new development," she said.
