Impressive Growth In Hiring By Sacramento Restaurants

Sacramento has long been a popular destination for sightseers and travelers, although economic conditions in the past several years did reduce incoming tourism dollars. Recent changes, including an expansion in job growth, designation as the "Farm-to-Fork Capital of America" and the decision to not relocate the Sacramento Kings, suggest the start of a turn-around to more prosperous times.

The Employment Development Department reported an impressive increase of 1,000 leisure and hospitality jobs in Sacramento from January to February of this year, with 800 of those jobs opening in food service and drinking establishments. Yearly numbers also reflect renewed optimism, with an 8.6 percent job increase in Sacramento's full-service restaurants from February 2014 to February 2015.

"The restaurant community continues to be a powerhouse of entry-level job opportunities," says Janna Haynes of the California Restaurant Association. There are more than 2,000 restaurants in the greater Sacramento area that offer table service," Haynes notes, adding, "We are very proud of the continued growth of our restaurant community".

According to the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, the capital city has more eateries that have received high Zagat rating than elsewhere in Northern California, even San Francisco. From casual cafes to fine dining establishments, there are plenty of options from which visitors and locals can choose.

Job-search site Indeed.com has current listings in the Sacramento region for numerous restaurant employees, including restaurant managers and assistant managers, wait staff, bakers, kitchen staff, hosts, chefs, bar staff, and prep cooks.

The Cheesecake Factory, Red Robin, Melt Café, Freebirds, The Firehouse Restaurant, Hawks, Source Global Tapas, and Firestone Public House are among those restaurants that recently sought new staff members.
