Rocklin Animal Rescue Desperately Searching For New Homes For 10 Dogs

ROCKLIN (CBS13) — A Rocklin animal rescue is looking for new homes for several of its dogs after it was shut down for violating city code.

Justin Montgomery owns 1 Love Dog Rescue in Rocklin, and tonight's he says he's the one in need of a little help.

"Me and my wife are two people and we've done this since May 2013 and we've spayed and neutered and rehomed close to 2000 dogs," he said. "Right now we're in a bad position."

He's desperate to find homes for all 10 of their dogs, or he could face more fines after city officials visited his property just days ago.

"We're a nonprofit rescue and we've been running this location for the last year and we didn't realize the harsh kennel laws when we moved here," he said.

City officials say they received a complaint in early March about an illegal kennel and went out to the property to take a look. Police Sgt. Gilbert Farulla says that's when they realized the rescue was out of compliance.

"We actually have a municipal code that prohibits ownership or operation of a kennel," he said.

City officials say they have worked with Montgomery, extending his deadline to re-home the dogs and working with him to keep the fines low.
