Grandmother Defends Mom Accused Of Lighting 7-Year-Old Daughter On Fire

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A woman accused of trying to kill her 7-year-old daughter by setting her on fire has been battling depression recently, her mother said on Monday.

Tasanee Wright defended her daughter, Porche Wright, 27, who is accused of trying to kill her 7-year-old child.

"My daughter, she's not that type of person, to do that kind of act, I'm very surprised," she said.

She says her granddaughter is suffering from major injuries and remains under treatment at Shriner's Children's Hospital.

"I heard that she poured gasoline on her and lit her on fire something like that," she said.

It's the same thing neighbors told CBS13 about Saturday's attack. On Monday, police confirmed they believe Porsche poured flammable liquid on her daughter, then lit her on fire.

"She's a very loving child and she's a nice child, and when she comes around she's very kind and polite," Tasanee says of her granddaughter she says is named Taylor.

She says she saw the mom and daughter just last week.

"Porche is a caring mother to her child. She takes care of Taylor as best as she can," she said.

But recently, she admits, things have been tough for Porche.

"She's battling with depression and you know many things that are going on in her life," she said.

She's now left to pray for her granddaughter's recovery.

"I have faith and hope that you know everything will okay," she said.

Porche will be facing a judge on Tuesday.
