Man Hit By Sheriff's Department SUV On Watt Avenue

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man is recovering in the hospital after being hit by a sheriff's department vehicle.

The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. Monday on northbound Watt Avenue near Whitney Avenue. Twenty-two-year-old Donnell Wade was driving with his brother, Daman Wade, when their vehicle ran out of gas. The brothers got into an argument and Donnell walked away, according to a statement from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

"You know to get steam off, and you want to take a walk. I guess he didn't see it. I don't know, it happened so fast," said Daman.

Donnell was walking on the Watt Avenue center divide when he reportedly stepped in front of an approaching Sacramento Sheriff's Department SUV driving next to the median. The deputy swerved to avoid Donnell, but hit him with the left side of the vehicle.

Donnell was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with major injuries.

The SUV was traveling around 40 mph at the time of the crash. Deputies say the area where Donnell was hit is poorly lit.
The left side mirror and the windshield were damaged.
