Investigators: Carmichael Man Tried To Kill His 2 Children, Then Himself

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – Authorities say a Carmichael man tried to kill his own children, then himself.

The incident happened on Saturday. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called around 9 p.m. because two children had not returned after a scheduled visit with their dad.

At the 5000 block of North Avenue home, deputies noticed that the lights were out but a car's engine could be heard inside garage.

Deputies were able to break into the locked garage and soon discovered the grisly scene: Three people, a man and two children, were inside a car that had a hose running from the exhaust to the interior.

The children, aged 8 and 10, were semi-conscious and were also suffering from serious physical injuries.

Deputies say the man, later identified as the father, was sitting in the front seat. Investigators believe the man assaulted the children first before he put them in the back seat of the car.

All three were taken to the hospital. The children are still in the hospital as of Tuesday and are said to be in serious, but stable, condition.

The man has not been identified. He will be booked into Sacramento County Jail once he is medically cleared, deputies say.
