Rebuilding Plans In Place For Roseville Rubio's
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Several weeks after a fire destroyed a popular restaurant in Roseville, investigators aren't sure what started the blaze and the charred restaurant shows little sign of cleanup.
The fire lit up the sky well before dawn in February as the Rubio's on Douglas Boulevard went up in smoke.
Now that the smoke has cleared, CBS13 viewers are wondering why it's taking so long to clean up after the fire.
What's left of the building has been fenced-in since the day after the fire and locked, with no sign of any cleanup crews. The short answer to what's going on we're told is the restaurant is planning its next move.
As for the cause, Roseville Fire says it wasn't arson.
"At this point we don't have any reason to believe that there's any foul play that happened with the Rubio's fire," said Rob Baquera.
Arson was ruled out because there was no incendiary device found. But investigators still don't know how it started.
"It''s not that uncommon, with a fire that was this destructive," he said. "When our crews arrived on scene, the fire was well involved inside the building."
The amount of water used to put the flames out and keep it from spreading into a busy shopping area made it hard to pinpoint where it may have started.
Rubio's CEO Mark Simon says plans are in the process for a new restaurant in Roseville.
"Rubio's is committed to the Roseville community, and we are working with our landlord to rebuild our restaurant," he said.
The 20 employees at the Douglas Boulevard location aren't out of a paycheck as they were moved to other restaurants in the area.
