Kimpton Hotels Picked For Downtown Sacramento Kings Arena Site

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A new high-end hotel is coming to Downtown Sacramento, next to a new arena for the Sacramento Kings.

Officials say the upscale hotel, along with the arena could help lure the NBA's All-Star Game to Sacramento.

Kimpton Hotels can be found in every major city in country, which will soon include Sacramento.

"We think it's going to attract not just government traffic but entertainment and lifestyle traffic as well," said Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger.

The world-renowned hotel will occupy the 16-story tower going next to the arena, adding 250 boutique hotel rooms to Sacramento's core.

"Obviously one of the things we need here in sacramento is more upscale hotel rooms to attract things like an All-Star Game," he said, adding that the city needs about 5,000 hotel rooms to make the cut.

But a brand like Kimpton Hotels is a big shot in the arm, adding to the Hyatt Regency and Sheraton Grand already in Sacramento.

The new Kimpton operated hotel will provide new perks like long beds for visiting NBA players, not to mention a stylish dining and nightlife scene.

Mike Testa with the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau says it will also provide a boost for the local economy, and not just downtown.

"Tourism isn't about the tourists," he said. It's about the locals. The more they contribute dollars to improve the quality of life for the locals."

The hotel is expected to be ready ahead of the arena's grand opening slated for fall 2016.
