BuyLocal.com Gives Stockton Businesses A Much-Needed Boost

STOCKTON (CBS13) — A new website puts an emphasis on shopping local, and features Stockton area mom and pop shops to give them a boost.

BuyLocal.com is all its name implies.

President Jerry Banks wanted to create a one-stop shop for small business.

"People think online first; we want them to think locally," he said. "We figure we can have one platform people can come to buy local and find great deals."

That ranges from beauty, auto care and food up to 40 percent off in the greater Stockton area.

"Stockton was hit hardest and first in the mortgage crisis bankruptcy, and all that Stockton businesses probably need the most help thought this would be a good place to work," he said.

The site went live just a few weeks ago and businesses like the concept.

Grace Aquino of Macronage Macarons says getting the word out about her shop can be tough.

"It is hard as a small business because I don't have a budget to pay for advertising," she said.

She's hoping this will give her the boost she needs in this economy.

"I'm excited for the potential, and it will work," she said.

The website is different from Groupon and LivingSocial because you don't pay ahead for the service; you just bring the deal on your phone and pay the retailer directly.

If it's successful, the creator plans to expand to include businesses in the Sacramento area.
