Forecast: Showers And Thunderstorms In The Mountains, Valley Temps Cooler Thursday-Friday

Coming up this week we can expect to see showers and thunderstorms over the mountains mainly late Wednesday through Friday. Thursday will have the bulk of the storm, and our best chance to see any moisture in the valley.

Snow Levels will be at around 5,500 feet or lower with heavy showers. Snow accumulations up to 6 inches are possible.

An upper-level low drops south into Northern California late Wednesday into Thursday. This will bring a threat of showers and thunderstorms over all of interior Northern California, especially to the mountains. The low shifts to the east on Friday for the greatest threat over the Sierra and Shasta County mountains.

Precipitation is somewhat limited with this system, so amounts are generally expected to be less than half an inch, and will be variable due to convective nature of showers.

Average precipitation in Sacramento for the month of May is .10". Last May, Sacramento received .01". In May 2013 the total was .57".

The biggest impact of this system will be cooler high temps. They will be in the low-to-mid 70s on Thursday and Friday.
