Law Enforcement Officers Gather At Capitol To Remember Fallen Brothers

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - As police are scrutinized across the country, thousands are at the state capital remembering their fallen comrades.

Law enforcement officials are paying tribute to those who were killed in the line of duty at the 39th Annual California Peace Officers' Memorial.

Some officers say they recognize the negative publicity law enforcement has received lately, but want the public to remember the good they do as well.

"Remember all the good things police officers and sheriffs deputies and investigators do day in and day out in their communities," said Capt. Dave Torgerson, a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesperson.

Monday's ceremony hits close to home following last year's shooting deaths of Placer County sheriff's Detective Michael Davis Jr. and Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver. Both men were gunned down last October during a six-hour shooting rampage.

Tonight at 5 p.m. on CBS13, some officers at the ceremony will talk about the recent police protests across the country and how they're handling the negative publicity.
