After Fire, Biltmore Hotel Could Be Torn Down By City Of Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) —The city of Sacramento is planning to tear down the Biltmore Hotel, saying the building's owner hasn't proven it's safe.

The windows on the building are broken, the paint has long faded away and danger signs are posted at the hotel after a March fire. All of this in the shadow of city hall.

A city leader told CBS13 that steps are underway that could lead the city to demolish the hotel after safety concerns from the fire. The owners need to file an engineering report proving the structural safety—something the city says hasn't happened.

Now the city could take action to enter the building themselves.

Tony Saca says he's owned the Biltmore Hotel for more than a decade, but recently gave control of the building to his sons. He says he's not sure what the family plans to do with it.
