Lodi Readying For Amgen Tour Of California
LODI (CBS13) — Several thousand people are expected to come to town for the finish line and festivities in Lodi during the Amgen Tour of California.
Monday's stage will end at Hutchins Street Square, where the city promises a large street fair featuring six wineries. Several business owners say they're taking advantage of Lodi's first time hosting the event.
"I'm normally closed on Mondays, but because the city is hosting this fabulous tour, I'll be open from 11 to 4. And I'm doing a special sale—15 percent the entire store," said Brenda Vecchiarelli, the owner of The Perfect Pear.
Down a few doors, French At Heart will also be a cycling enthusiast come Monday. Store owner Kay Claxton says the city asked them to make their storefronts more inviting for guests.
"They want us to take ownership of our little space: set up chairs, have a party. They want us to put TVs out, but we don't have the luxury to drag a TV out, but definitely have some lemonade, water, and maybe some sweets," Claxton said.
Lodi schools and Woodbridge High School will be closing early on Monday since the bike route comes down their streets. Downtown will also have limited access starting at 9 a.m.
"Cars can drive through, but they won't be allowed to park. At 3 p.m. no one will be allowed on the street," Claxton said.
City workers were busy on Thursday afternoon fixing downtown sidewalks and repainting crosswalks.
