Drought Will Leave Sour Taste To Some Drinking Water
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Residents in some San Francisco Bay Area cities are again going to experience sour-tasting drinking water.
That's because the East Bay Municipal Utility District is switching its water supply due to California's ongoing drought and legal obligations to protect threatened fish species.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the utility will draw warmer, surface water from the Pardee Reservoir. That water teems with algae that leave behind compounds that give the water a sharp taste.
Residents in Oakland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek and other East Bay cities can expect the sour taste to return on Tuesday. Some utility district customers experienced the acrid water in March when the district also drew water closer to the surface of the reservoir.
