Boy, 4, In Stockton Jumps From Mother's Stolen Car

STOCKTON (CBS13) - A 4-year-old Stockton boy is recovering after he jumping from a stolen car.

The incident happened Sunday in the 2200 block of East Lindsay Street. Four-year-old Peyton an other kids were playing inside Payton's mother's car with the doors open when the woman when she went back inside to say goodbye to relatives.

That's when the thief jumped into the car and drove off with the doors still open, according to Payton's mother.

Payton jumped out of the moving car suffering cuts and scrapes to his legs and feet.

When Payton's mother asked her son how he knew to jump out, he replied: "Because he wasn't you, mommy."

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-40s who is 5'5" tall. He was wearing a white t-shirt and light blue pants.

Police describe the stolen vehicle as a silver 2001 four-door Honda Civic with California license plate 7EDX752.
