Elk Grove Transit, RT Battling Over Payments

ELK GROVE (CBS13) — As two transit agencies are trying to battle their budgets, Regional Transit and Elk Grove officials are battling over taxpayer dollars.

Assemblyman Jim Cooper is pushing a proposed state law that would allow Elk Grove to stop paying hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to Regional Transit.

Elk Grove has its own bus service but pays each year for a place on the Regional Transit board. While Elk Grove officials say they're paying twice, RT says that's not the case.

E-Tran has an $8 million operating budget, but is facing a $300,000 deficit, while RT has a $155 million budget and a $770,000 deficit. Service cuts could be a possibility for both agencies.
