Chaotic Crash, Shooting Leaves South Sacramento Stunned

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – California Highway Patrol deputies say they started chasing two speeding cars at St. Mary's Cemetery in south Sacramento.

The chase ended with five cars crashing into each other at 65th Street between Stockton Boulevard and Elder Creek Road, then gunshots.

"This is senseless, horrible," witness Lamont Johnson said. "[I] can't go home."

One car ceashed into a pole. Another's hood flattened against its frame.

Five cars in all were wrecked in what looked like a demolition derby, blocking traffic on 65th Street.

But investigators aren't just collecting car parts – they're looking for shell casings.

"We heard like three shots and everyone just started running inside," witness Aimy Tran said.

Tran was serving food at her Vietnamese restaurant and saw the crazy scene unfold.

"A lot of people were outside drinking coffee and you just see everyone rushing it all at once," Tran said.

She says she heard cars colliding, then chaos.

"Maybe about 10, 15 minutes later we see two guys running this way. And one of them pulled out a gun and just started shooting," Tran said.

No one was hit by gunfire, but investigators say a pregnant woman inside her car was hit in the multi-car collision.

"What if it's me with my kids in the car, and my car gets hit? It's like, for what reason?" Vannesa Xiong said.

Highway patrol officers say it started as a car chase at the St. Mary's cemetery blocks away.

The chain reaction crash combined with gunshots has left some costly damage and an emotional toll.

"We're just innocent people and people are shooting. It's like why?" Xiong said.

Police are now looking for the guys who abandoned their cars and the shooters. No clear descriptions have been given yet, and there have been no leads so far from surveillance video.
