Construction, Hospitality Industries Boost Sacramento Job Market

The United States Census Bureau recently released a report on the employment growth of the 50 largest counties based on the size of their employee workforce. Sacramento, California topped the list as having the highest rate of employment growth between 2012 and 2013 at 5.5 percent, besting its more well-known contemporaries, San Francisco and Los Angeles counties. Employment in general in the Sacramento area has enjoyed a steady rate increase since 2011 continuing to present day.

The local construction sector specifically has experienced solid growth in the month of March and, overall, led job growth amongst all sectors. In particular, construction groups were encouraged by a poll carried out recently by the Public Policy Institute of California that found 55 percent of voters and 66 percent of voting adolescents in support of a statewide bond to fund school construction if that measure ever popped up on the ballot. That, plus the influx of specialty trade jobs with final bids being submitted for the California High-Speed rail project and the continued construction of the Sacramento King's new practice stadium and arena, have bolstered job growth for the construction industry.

Additionally, the leisure and hospitality sector also enjoyed sizable increases in overall employment in the month of March by 3.3 percent compared to last year. This growth coincides with news in connection with Sacramento's new arena with a freshly minted partnership between the Sacramento Kings and Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants. Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants are sprinkled throughout major cities across the nation. The new hotel, featuring a 16-story hotel with 250-rooms is set to open in 2016.   This news bodes well for job seekers with a management or hospitality administration background who bring the right set of skills who might want to work for one of the world's leading boutique hotels employers.
