Deputies: Bulletproof Vest Test Ends With Man Accidentally Killing Friend
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies say a man accidentally shot his friend to death when they were testing out a bulletproof vest.
Sources tell CBS13 that Elijah Ray Lambert, 21, was with a group of friends testing out a bulletproof vest near Bannister Park in Carmichael when one of his friends decided to put the vest on.
Officers say Lambert then aimed a gun at his 19-year-old friend, squeezed the trigger and killed him.
Investigators won't say where the bullet struck on the victim's body, but detectives don't believe Lambert meant to kill his friend.
Police released a statement that read in part: "Lambert was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a charge of Homicide, after what detectives believe to be an unintentional killing of the victim."
Lambert is a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to even have a gun.
He faces murder and other weapons charges and is being held without bail at the Sacramento County Jail.
