Giants Visit Obama For Third Time In Five Years

WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama is praising the World Series champion San Francisco Giants for the team'scommitment to helping underserved youth.

Obama says the team is partnering with San FranciscoState University and Major League Baseball to build a multibillion-dollar youth academy with training facilities, classrooms, batting cages and baseball fields.

He says the academy will offer tutoring, mentoring and college prep work. The president says it complements a program he started last year to help expand educational and other opportunities for boys and young men of color.

Obama calls it a "tremendous commitment from a tremendous team."

The Giants defeated the Kansas City Royals last October to claim baseball's top honor.

Thursday's visit to the White House was the team's third in the past five years.
