First Day Of 100-Degree Temperatures In Sacramento Keeps Air Conditioner Repairmen Busy

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — On a day when temperatures crossed the century mark for the first time in much of the Sacramento area, some homeowners found out their air conditioners weren't working.

In Carol Davis' Elk Grove home, she's overheating with an air conditioner that's blowing hot air. She had trouble sleeping the night before when her air conditioner suddenly went out.

She's far from alone. The phones were jammed at Park Mechanical, Sacramento's oldest heating and air company.

General Manager Jaime Schulz says calls tripled on Monday as homeowners found out their air conditioners weren't working.

"We fielded about 400 calls today with the heat still coming," Schulz said. "We make sure today that we're prepared we have everybody working we brought lunch in for everybody."

Back at Davis' place, the news could be better—it looks like a refrigerant leak that could be a pricey fix. At this point, though, she doesn't mind, as she's anxious for a little relief from the first blast of summer.

"I have been sweating today and I learned a long time ago from my momma, ladies don't sweat, so therefore I am delighted it's going to be fixed, and I'll be nice and cool and comfortable," she said.
