'Charlie Brown' Actor Lashes Out At Courtroom

SAN DIEGO (CBS Sacramento)-- Peter Robbins, who voiced the cartoon character Charlie Brown as a child, was ordered a mental competency hearing after lashing out during a Friday court hearing.

Officials say the 58-year-old was taken into custody following probation violations after he was was found removing his electronic monitor and using drugs and alcohol back in February.

During a Friday hearing to assess whether he would go back to jail for the violations, Robbins had obscene outbursts in which he repeatedly swore at the judge, deputy distract attorney and even his own attorney.

"He acted out," Deputy District Attorney Brenda Daly told Reuters. "He insulted everyone he could possibly insult in the courtroom. It raised doubts about his competency."

"I hope you drop dead of a heart attack!" Robbins yelled at San Diego Superior Court judge Robert O'Neill, as reported by Huffington Post.

Huffington Post also reports that Robbins yelled at a bailiff who put a hand on his shoulder when it was time to lead him out of the courtroom.

"He's rubbing me up, he's got a gun!" Robbins said. "Run for your lives, he has a gun -- run for your lives!"

Robbins plead guilty to stalking and threat charges in 2013 after he was accused of harassing and threatening an ex-girlfriend. A plea deal allowed the former actor to serve eight months in a drug treatment facility. He was ordered to remain sober and wear an electronic monitor following his release.

Robbins started voicing Charlie Brown in 1965 when he was just nine years old. After voicing numerous specials for the series up until 1969, Robbins was eventually replaced in later versions of the cartoon.
