Police Arrest Man Accused Of Starting South Sacramento Apartment Fire

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Crews are investigating an overnight fire in South Sacramento that's being called suspicious.

The fire happened around 3:30 a.m. in the Pine Manor Apartments on Valley Hi Drive, near Mack Road.

Fire officials say five units are destroyed and two others are damaged in the fire, which is being called suspicious.

Investigators have arrested 26-year-old Longinos Cadena Togonon on the charge of arson, assault with a deadly weapon and violating a restraining order. His bail has been set at $150,000.

The American Red Cross is helping those displaced by the fire.

One woman woke up to the flames, grabbed her son and ran.

"I didn't even know what to do. My son and me were sleeping, we both started screaming. My legs are still shaking. I don't even know what to do," she said.

One resident told firefighters her dog was stuck inside her burning apartment. About a hour later, firefighters were able to find the dog. It was not injured.

Valley Hi Drive near Bruceville Road had been closed while firefighters were battling the blaze.
