3 Baby Lemurs Born At Sacramento Zoo

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento Zoo has welcomed some new additions: three baby lemurs.

All three were born in the past few weeks, the zoo says.

The babies were born to the zoo's Black and White Ruffed and Mongoose lemurs – two critically-endangered species native to Madagascar.

"Due to the intricate records and observation notes by Keeper staff and our Veterinary team, we were extra vigilant as the expected birth dates approached," said Matt McKim, the Sacramento Zoo's Animal Collection Director, in a release.

The two Black and White Ruffed lemurs are female, while the sex of the Mongoose lemur will be unclear for at least six months.

While the babies are in an off-exhibit area, visits might be able to catch a glimpse of them in between the lemur's building and the exhibit.

According to the zoo, this is the Black and White Ruffed lemur's fifth litter and the Mongoose lemur's third.
